This ANZAC Day, tribute band House Too Crowded will bring the hits of Crowded House and Split Enz to life at Panthers Penrith.
The band is led by frontman Glenn Starr and delivers a performance that sends audiences back to a simpler time.
“House Too Crowded is six lads from Melbourne with a love of great music from the ‘80s and ‘90s – especially Crowded House and Split Enz. We wanted to put together a project that was meaningful,” Starr said.
“We wanted to play the music of two great ANZAC artists that really made an impact across multiple generations.”
The frontman described House Too Crowded’s origin as a love project.
“The project started with myself and my best mate, Robert Taylor. We’ve been playing music together since we were 14-years-old – about 31 years now,” Starr reminisced.
“Rob was probably more the driving force behind the band to start off with. He’s a very big Crowded House and Split Enz fan.
“We knew we wanted to get out and gig it, but it started as a few mates getting together and having a jam with some songs that we really enjoyed.”
The six members were also looking for a new challenge.
“The one thing we’ve tried really hard to do with this band is make it sound as authentic as we possibly can,” Starr stated.
“We make our live vocals sound as close to the original recording as we can so that people instantly recognise the classic songs. Hopefully we’ll get people singing and dancing along and having a good time.”
The Melbourne artist considers that generation of music an undeniable standout.
“When you talk about the greatest songs ever written, you can’t go past ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’ by Crowded House. That was on the first Crowded House album and is regarded by many as one of the greatest songs ever written,” Starr gushed.
“The antics of Split Enz was big as well. The band came out right smack bang in the middle of disco and punk, and they’ve come out with this zany, crazy look. On top of that, they had the songs to back it up, and they are songs that are still being played on every radio station today.”
The band will grace the Panthers stage in classic Split Enz-style attire for the energetic and nostalgic show.
“To have such a great venue supporting live music is incredible,” Starr said about Panthers.
“You can go to Penrith any week and see a great live show; it’s an iconic venue and some of the greats have played there.
“To be able to go there with our show – and for it to be our first show in Sydney – is pretty extraordinary.”
See House Too Crowded play an unforgettable show at Panthers on April 25. Tickets are available online or from club reception.
