Grammy-award winning artist Macy Gray is stopping at Coliseum Theatre for her largest Australian tour yet. Her triumphant return comes after a sensational sold-out 2024 tour.

“We can’t wait! It’s all we’re thinking about,” Gray told the Weekender about returning to Aussie shores.

“Australia is where I got my first plaque… it was six platinum and they had this big event for me and all the big shots from the label were there. That was the first time I got awarded like that, so I’ll never forget Australia.”

During the tour, Gray will be delivering the songs everyone knows and loves, along with tracks from her new album, ‘The Trouble with the Truth’.

Australian audiences will be the first to hear the new tracks live, and the artist is currently fine-tuning the upcoming concert experience.

“I was just there not too long ago, so I really have to make sure we do something fresh for the people that come back,” she said.

“There’s a huge challenge there, but the ultimate goal is to always put a smile on everybody’s face and have people dancing, singing songs, and sweating. I want them to hear their favourite song and then start making out with their husband – stuff like that.”

Gray hinted at collaborations in her new album, and that’s not something new to her. She has collaborated with other major artists like Ariana Grande, Justin Timberlake and will.i.am in the past.

“It’s cool to go in and see what you can come up with together because you for sure have different perspectives and you want to say different things. It’s cool to get in a room and see what becomes of that combination,” she said.

For anyone who hasn’t already heard of the legendary Macy Gray, she has a song recommendation for you.

“I have a song called ‘Oblivion’ off my second album, ‘The Id’. That one is so wild and it’s not specific to anything,” she suggested.

“If you hear ‘I Try’ you expect me to be a girl who does love songs that are mid-tempo and has a cool voice. But then if you don’t get that, you get disappointed or confused by other tracks.

“I would start people off with something totally confusing already, and then it’s wide open and they are open to anything else I want them to hear.”

On Thursday, September 24, prepare to experience Macy Gray Live at Coliseum Theatre for more than a concert tour – but rather a festival of soul!
