Verdict: 2.5/5

The survival psychological thriller ‘Fall’ was one of the most unique movies of 2022, and while it may not have been collecting any Academy Awards, it was an edge of your seat ride from start to finish.

But did it leave one exiting the cinema desperate for a sequel? Not really.

We got one, however. In fact, we’re getting two – with a third ‘Fall’ movie set to be filmed in the not-too-distant future.

‘Fall 2’ does a lot of what the first film does. It strips the survival-thriller plot down to the bare essentials – a small cast, minimal location changes and obvious, though still gripping, near misses.

This time around, Jax (Harriet Slater) is the main attraction. She’s the younger sister of Shiloh, who didn’t survive the first film.

Fall 2 is in cinemas now.

Jax is struggling to get past her grief, but with Shiloh’s friend Luce (Arsema Thomas) in tow, she decides to complete some of the bucket list items on her late sister’s agenda – starting with an ambitious and illegal “plank walk” in Thailand.

And so begins the easy-to-follow plot: Two girls climb mountain, two girls get trapped, two girls must find way out. Attractive man in the mix.

There’s thunderstorms, earthquakes and landslides to contend with – and as the opening scene shows, it’s not just natural challenges climbers must face.

‘Fall 2’ is not as good as the first film, and slightly more predictable. There’s also some really laughable scenes.

Fall 2 is in cinemas now.

The ultimate pay-off is OK, the twist reasonable and the acting above average.

But nothing about ‘Fall 2’ proved to me that a decent post-COVID movie needed a series.

See this movie at Hoyts Penrith.
